artZ Hijacks the Babelbühne!

It is that time again! For the second summer in a row , KunstZ hijacks the Babelbühne to give you an unforgettable day full of theatre, dance, song and film!

Every Saturday the Bühne is hijacked during the BabelPutch by local talent with a quirky artistic language. The artist collective Rooftoptiger has built the hanging gardens of Babylon in Antwerp North for this purpose. So come and dream away in a sustainable oasis made up of terraces and water features! Saturday 25 September you will get to know the heart of kunstZ and its artistic makers. Expect a diverse program in the open air with your bubble and a drink. We put our artists in the spotlight and share the beautiful creations they are working on this season. We also share a gem on the big screen that we recorded last season in complete safety and that we haven't been able to share with the general public yet! 

What can you expect from the evening program?

'Shakespeare Anders' premiered in May 2020: various makers and work together in this art production in the wonderful world of the midsummer night's dream. For example, director Nitish Bhardwaj was inspired by Hippolytha, the queen of the Amazons, for which he developed a theatrical performance. He builds on this creation and, together with Lara Groeneweg, presents SKYLLA, a spoken-word performance with live music! Somalia Williamson also played a role in 'Shakespeare Anders': she played the role of Puck, a mythical fairy, and will present herself just as magically on the stage. Together with Alec De Bruyn, Gorik Elaut and Tijen Lawton, she brings for the first time 'MOTHER', a music project in which they discover  what it means to be a mother. In addition, Tom Viaene made a mockumentary, 'Midsummernightmare', in which the crazy artZhuis is played in a funny way and everything that goes on behind the scenes...

Mohanad Mokhtar got the inspiration for his children's show from another dreamland: inspired by 'One Thousand and One Nights', he tells his own story by taking on the role of a Persian sailor! We are also joining forces with Gigarte de giant : this mobile stage by Borgerhout will be launched for the first time and will host the magical foursome of Zonderwolk: Hind Eljadid, Zahra Eljadid, Sergej Lopouchanski and Manu Moreau.  The audience dreams away with music, rap and spoken word!

Hungry? Green Deen vzw sells vegan sandwiches and soup all evening! Green Deen vzw is an (Islamic-inspired) environmental organization that strives for a sustainable world. All proceeds go towards their participation in the Refugee walk (on Sunday 3 October). Good food and supporting a good cause makes it definitely worth popping in for a tasty bite (note: you can only pay with cash or payconic).

Who is artZ?  KunstZ is an artistic creation platform that offers space for ethnically and culturally diverse talent to develop in the performing arts. We are an organization where various makers and artists develop in the field of theatre, dance and film. Together with new talent, we look for contents, stories and forms that reflect current urban society. 

With the KunstZacademie, a part-time theater education, and the support of new makers in the theater workshop, spotting and developing talent is at the heart of the KunstZwerking.

In the theater workshop we offer a platform to those who have the ambition to work in the performing arts. KunstZ offers a network, support and guidance to develop creatively.

The aim is to see a sustainable diversification of the cultural offer and to lower barriers to new potential.
