GENDERLESS, is a multimedia performance about the need for a new definition of gender.

In this artistic research Maryam K. Hedayat mixes interviews, new and old advertising and film fragments, new media and communication tools.

What definitions and concepts exist? And how much weight do certain historical, cultural, popular and/or current views on gender still weigh in our thinking about gender today? Or should there just be no definition?

Through interviews Maryam investigates how language, imagery, culture and religion are responsible for a male or female connotation in certain concepts and ideas.
How strong is our image formed by background and culture? What role do myths, fairy tales, archetypes play?

In an audiovisual landscape, a dialogue is created and points of view are unleashed on the viewer.

Genderless was shown as work in progress during Mestizo Arts Festival 2015. The progress of this artistic research was shown during Mestizo Arts Festival 2016 and 2017 and Bang Festival 2016 in Brussels.

Genderless, an artistic research by Maryam K. Hedayat, in collaboration with Judith Clijsters with the support of kunstZ & C-Mine Genk and Mestizo Arts Festival.
